The Light
21 'Then the Lord said to Moses. “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was pitch darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. 23 They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the people of Israel had light where they lived. ' Exodus 10:21-23 ESV Darkness that can be felt – darkness so black that no one dared move. This particular plague in Egypt was directed at Ra the god of the sun. God was making a point because He IS LIGHT and there is no darkness in Him at all. Imagine them trying to ascribe God’s essence to a demon of darkness: It should really be no surprise. Later in this study we will explore where Satan tries to pass himself off as an angel of light. God was displaying the difference between His presence and His absence. The experiment I spoke of yesterday from the Caverns at Mountain View Arkansas was a darkness that could be felt. I sat on the front row and when the lights went out I dared not move. I knew 4 feet in front of me was a railing and a 50 foot drop. That was physical darkness but what of Spiritual darkness? As a Christian in rebellion I have known that too but I still charged forward like I could see. I would to God that I had fallen off that cliff by myself but I pulled folks down with me. In my despair I could see those that could still see and it shook me. The dots on the horizon were the only light the people of Egypt could see: lights from Israel’s windows. In the Light Surrounded by Darkness
