The Light
1 ' Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! 2 For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! 8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. 9 For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land. ' Psalm 37:1-9 ESV When I put the daily Bible Readings in the e-bulletin I am going to list the whole psalm every day. Psalm 37 is 40 verses long and there are Eight heavily quoted verses in this psalm. It is a psalm of David which I think most of these Light verses will be. He hid from Saul 8 years – 4 in Israel hiding in caves and 4 years at Ziklag among Israel’s enemy. He knew Darkness and he knew the LIGHT Luthier 101
Is There a Point to all our Fretting?
Actually there is not. If I slot my fretboards right and compensate the bridge correctly and set intonation the player just plays. David’s painting of Darkness and Light in this psalm is showing you that the perfect Creator already did the fretwork. “Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.” When you take what you want in this world you walk in the wickedness of darkness. The opposite is true when you believe God and allow Him to bring all you need: you walk in LIGHT. It’s plain: either you trust God or you don’t.
