The Light
'The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” ' John 1:29-31 https://my.bible.com/bible/59/JHN.1.29-31 Read John chapter 5. John 5 was Jesus compelling the Jews to open their eyes to the witnesses declaring Him to be God’s Son. The chapter begins with Jesus healing a man unable to walk for 38 years at the pool of Bethesda. The Jews did not praise God because the man was healed; but condemned him for carrying his bed on Saturday. The Jews were intent on having a trial on the Sabbath though so Jesus starts naming off witnesses. Of course they were witnesses themselves but refused to believe their own testimony: Only God can heal. The Testimony of Almighty God
John and Moses
Then Jesus sited John’s witness as the reference in John chapter 1 states. John came along in a dark time and offered them Hope in their hopelessness-Light in their Darkness. That Hope-Light was through repentance and turning back to God and John showed that to be accomplished in Jesus. John shined God’s Light as God led him to show Jesus as Savior of their souls from their own sin. Jesus then expounds that John’s job was just to point to the Light. To make the works of God through Him known. Then Jesus points to the Law of Moses as God’s testimony that He was God’s Son. - 39 'You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me. 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”' John 5:39,45-47 https://my.bible.com/bible/59/JHN.5.39,45-47 In other places Jesus pointed out that they believed the Law allowed them to save “The Ox in the ditch”. They only pointed out that Jesus was defeating the right enemy when He conquered Sin instead of the Romans. They could not understand that Jesus had saved a person from his dungeon/tomb and brought him out into the Light. My overview is pathetic compared to the Words of Jesus so read His testimony and shine. Your job is the same as John’s: its getting pretty dark – do your Job!
