The Light
Read Matthew 10 In this episode Jesus calls out His Apostles and Commissions them to Go out and preach. This is actually the beginning of The Church (Ecclesia - Greek EkklÄ“sia, “gathering of those summoned”). It reminds me of the scene in The Lord of the Rings where the Fellowship of the Ring are chosen. A group of faithful people called out for a specific task and purpose. I wrote a song back in 2006 that I have been practicing to record titled “So Messed Up”. The first verse is “I was so messed up when He called my name. He touched my heart and my life was changed. He saved my life and He saved my soul. Emptiness was made pure and whole.” and the chorus – “Human eyes just can’t see, just how much Jesus loves me. A human mind just can’t know, just how much He loves you so”. His whispers into my deepest darkness I shout from the housetops. You can’t be His Ekklesia unless you were called or summoned. My life has been nothing of what I would have planned or even thought I would have wanted. But my life has been more awesome than I could have imagined: that’s His Grace to His servant. That’s His plan: Imagine the reports those 12 men returned with. They left with nothing but a message and every need was filled and their mission accomplished. I fear “Christians” that can’t give account of how Jesus has changed their lives? Has He even called their name? Jesus isn’t a spiritual hitchhiker you picked up – He is the one with the wheels and you afoot. Before Jesus said “Follow Me” I looked like a normal person; but in the LIGHT my thoughts and deeds hideous. The Student Handbook
