The Light
6 ' For to us a child is born, to us a son is given. and the government shall be upon his shoulder. and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end. on the throne of David and over his kingdom. to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. ' Isaiah 9:6-7 In this chapter Isaiah begins with prophecy of the coming Messiah to help them understand God’s Promise is kept. In their minds they could not fathom that Israel could fall because of God’s promise to David. That promised King was here before David and the only time He left His throne was to die for us. The first 7 verses of this chapter was to the believer for Hope in the coming destruction. The last 14 is titled “Judgment on Arrogance and Oppression”. The first 7 verses were for the believer and the last 14 for the oppressor: but it’s all LIGHT. While they lived in the relative peace of Isaiah’s time the poor and powerless were without hope. The first waves of exiles to be taken from Israel were certain of royalty and craftsmen. God began the task of taking those that trusted Him away from what was to come. With a few left to carry on God’s work such as Jeremiah God laid siege to Jerusalem. Ezekiel was in exile the whole time of his prophecy and showing what would happen in safety. It’s all LIGHT to the believer because God makes sure His have the hope they need. Everything is darkness to the oppressor because their soul is void of light: they spread what they have inside – outside. The oppressor’s only hope is God not being or not seeing: that’s pure hopelessness. Whatever happens always remember “Unto Us a Child is Born.”
